Alar Reduction (Nostril Reduction)
External Wedge Excision and Internal Cinching Suture Techniques to Refine Wide, Flaring Nostrils and Alar Base Proportions
Overview of Alar Reduction
Even when the nasal bridge and tip are well-projected, wide or flaring alar wings can make the lower nose appear heavy and blunt. Within our Rhinoplasty center at Soul Plastic Surgery, Alar Reduction narrows the alar base to match the intercanthal width between the inner corners of the eyes.
Two Surgical Approaches
- External Alar Wedge Excision: For patients with thick alar skin and pronounced lateral flaring. A crescent-shaped wedge is excised precisely along the natural alar-facial crease so the fine suture line hides inside the natural groove.
- Internal Sill Excision & Cinching Suture: For patients with moderate nostril floor width and thin skin. Small incisions inside the nostril floor are combined with a cinching suture beneath the nasal sill to gather the alar base inward without external scars.
Can be performed standalone or together with Custom 3D Rhinoplasty. Book a consultation via our Online Consultation page.
Clinical Risk & Side-Effect Notice: Individual outcomes vary by anatomy and healing response. Potential side effects such as bleeding, infection, inflammation, swelling, or asymmetry may occur; please consult directly with a board-certified specialist prior to treatment.
